It’s always intriguing to ask yourself the question: “Why do I do the things that I do?”. In other words: what is the driver and motivator behind my business/profession/whatsoever? We’re all pretty much aware of What we do, and also How we do it. Ideally, the Why is the base or the starting point for the What and the How.
The concept of the Golden Circle is by now pretty well-known and is often used by companies to increase their sales figures and commercial success. One example that Sinek used to derive his concept from is the success of Apple: ‘’Everything we do, we believe in challenging the status quo. We believe in thinking differently… The way we challenge the status quo is by making our products beautifully designed, simple to use and user-friendly. And we happen to make great computers.’’ The reason why their strategy is successful is related to the functioning of the brain. With the Why (and also the How), a certain area in our brain is activated that is responsible for our feelings, such as trust and loyalty. This area is also responsible for our behaviour and our decision making, even though we might hope that that was the job of our conscious mind.
However, I believe that the Why is not only helpful in selling your service or product better but it allows you to develop the energy that make the How and the What kind of self-understood. It allows you to develop a service or product that is YOU, authentic and in line with who and what you are. The Why is something that can be an enormous source of energy.
The Why of IDevelop is simply a “contribution to our society”, by helping others to help themselves – and if necessary to help them to find their Why…
